Community Service Club Rocks!

NDHS Community Service Club students helped volunteer at Material for the Arts in Queens! MFTA is an awesome organization that provides thousands of NYC’s arts and cultural organizations, public schools, and community arts programs with the supplies they need to run and expand their programs. MFTA gathers materials from companies and individuals that no longer need them and makes them available, for free, to the artists and educators that do. MFTA is a great resource to NDHS Design staff as we always have an annual trip at the start of our school year! Great work to all the girls that helped organize the warehouse materials!

Identity Sculpture

Based on the work by master sculpture Robert Arneson, Year one students produced several drafts and studies before creating their final piece. The students were asked to place objects on their "heads" that told the viewer about their personality and interests. They used recycled materials, glue, tape, and acrylic paint to create their masterpieces. Way to go 9th graders!

Repeat Pattern Design

Eloina Flores's organic repeat pattern design marketed on an ipod skin.

Brittany Reeves's geometric repeat pattern design marketed on a bed set.

Shartell Moran's organic repeat pattern design marketed on swim wear.

Melody Dunbar's organic repeat pattern design marketed on a bed set.

10th grade students have been studying repeat pattern design. They studied and created geometric and organic repeats. They then had to solve the problem of how to market their repeat patterns on specific products. Student's also learned about target markets and merchandising.

Junior Lighting

Junior and Sophomore designers were asked to create table top lamps. The design theme was kept open but all the lamps were variations on the simple cube.
