ART IN GENERAL and NDHS COLLAB





Art in General and NDHS will be working together to produce a school store. Based on the work of Fawn Krieger, the school store will be mobile and sell products designed by students.

INTERSESSION




In January we had 3 days of faculty designed classes that focused on interdisciplinary instruction. We offered classes such as Bike Krafting, T-Shirt Re- Construction, and Cheffery.

G-Class at New Museum



A group of our seniors will be having design class once a week at the New Museum of Contemporary Art. The class will examine the topic of neighborhood through the lense of art and design.

TENEMENT MUSEUM OPENING!

February 14th is LABOR OF LOVE, our annual student showcase. Please come to the auditorium on the first floor to see work from the design studios and our after school programs. The show starts at 5 o’clock. Parents are more than welcome! There will be a special Valentine's Day School Dance following the show!

CENTER FOR ARCHITECTURE- MODULAR DESIGN WEEK


Eric Ratkowski from the Center for Architecture helped our students create modular chairs from cardboard. Each chair was created in teams of four and was meant to hold the weight of an adult. Chairs were placed in the hallways to see the designs of all our students!

DESIGNER WALLETS




Year two design students are making fashionable wallets to fit their community style. Hand sewn and block printed on velvet fabric, they rock!

SUBCULTURE TEES




Year 2 design students have been making subculture t-shirts. What is a subculture? Try GOTH, PUNK PREP, SK8TER, etc. Can you figure out which one could be marketed to a specific subculture?

The Design 3 students traveled to the Studio Museum in Harlem to see the Kori Kewkirk show. The trip was sponsored by the New Museum of Contemporary Art. Kori will be back in a month to work with our students again!

KORI NEWKIRK VISIT


Whitney Biennial Artist, Kori Newkirk, visited our Year Three design studio. A former high school art teacher in LA, Kori taught a lesson to the students on the power of messages in the media. The visit was sponsored by the New Museum of Contemporary Art. On Wednesday the entire grade will travel to the Studio Museum in Harlem to see his new exhibition!

LATEEN MAGAZINE and the MODEL CLUB



LATEEN magazine shot photographs of the model club for their upcoming issue on teen fashion. The shoot was held on Saturday in the Rooftop Legends Exhibition space.
