PROMALOMADINGDONG


Our first graduating class had their PROM at Tavern on the Green. Students dressed to impress and had a great time dancing till midnight.

SPRING CARNIVAL


SPRING CARNIVAL is approaching quickly. This year the event will be held on the roof with exciting games and student work followed by a performance in the auditorium.

ANIMATION CLUB TRIP


The Animation Club traveled to the Chelsea Art Museum to see the Parsons Digital Design departments' vision for the SIMS2.

UGLY DOLLS


As a warm up for the third grade LEGENDS collaboration, students created stuffed animals. The LEGENDS project asks students to design a plush toy based on their third grade buddy's story.

MICHAEL EALY RETURNS



Friday, March 30th proved New Design students really do rock! Michael Ealy came back after this weeks amazing Master Classes to work privately with our 11th grade English students. The kids really worked their magic as Michael helped us work through scenes from Their Eyes Were Watching God. The whole workshop was a blast and we thank Michael for coming back and Working Playground for the support!

MASTER CLASS




This years MASTER CLASS, put on by Working Playground!, was a huge success. Artists included: Fab 5 Freddy, Lee Quinones, Mariska Hargitay, Sarah Jones, Sway, Matthew Lilliard, Ron Haviv, Talib Kweli, Michael Ealy, David Rodriguez, and many others. Students got to work first hand with Master Artists and get critiques of their work. The evening ended with an inspirational Q and A with the artists.

COLLEGE FAIR


Students from NDHS got to visit a college fair and find out about schools from around the country. Before they traveled to the fair, students worked on resumes and essays for college applications.

SAGE AND COOMBE AT CENTER FOR ARCHITECTURE


Last Friday New Design Students traveled to the Center For Architecture for a DESIGN DAY. The topic of the day was activating the NDHS floor so it looks more like a design school. Architects from Sage and Coombe showed their designs of library renovations. Their work hightlighted how activate spaces with graphics, lights, and architectural elements. David and Macalay then worked with our students to enhance their visions for the future of the school floor.

1 SOUL YOUTH DESIGN CLUB




Oh Yeah....Right here right now! NDHS students work with 1 SOUL designs in an internship in Williamsburgh at the HQ print center. Students will work with Magic Mike to learn screen printing and fashion merchandising. Look for the program to be hosted at NDHS next fall!

CENTER for ARCHITECTURE


On February 16th the Year 3 Design students will travel to the Center for Architecture to see School Buildings – The State of Affairs. Select students will then participate in a DESIGN CHARRETTE at the CFA on March 16th to design an improved New Design High School for the future.

GUERRILLA GIRLS


The GUERRILLA GIRLS will be coming to NDHS on March 6th to talk about Subversive Advertising and Feminism. The speaker series is sponsored by the New Museum of Contemporary Art and is part of the Year 3 Perspectives on Design Program.

418 GALLERY SHOW: Aftereffects


AFTEREFFECTS: Works from Fashion Club, Animation and Photo Club opens this week in the gallery. This show highlights three after-school programs sponsored by Working Playground. Claymation, Apparel Design, and Outdoor Imagery are featured in the show.

LABOR OF LOVE


What is Labor of Love?
Labor of Love is our Winter Showcase!
On February 13th during Design for Life you will visit the DESIGN and FOOD booths in the hallways.
With the Design Dollars you have earned you can purchase food or products made in Design Class!
To cap off the day there will be a SLAM after school.
During the SLAM we will show cool animation and film work from the After School and Integration Programs.

JOURNALISM CLASS PRODUCES FIRST MAGAZINE


Brett Burns has done it again. His Journalism class has produced their first ZINE called Eight 1/2 by Eleven. You can pick up an issue at the LABOR of LOVE show on February 13th!

NEW DESIGN TRAVELS TO THE SOUTH POLE


Our FITNESS for LIFE program is in high gear. With programs like Capoeira, Yoga, Lifting, Swimming and Fitness our students will be lifelong athletes dedicated to a healthy lifestyle.

2006 SKYSCRAPER SHOWDOWN



Students competed in two categories to win the SKYSCRAPER CHALLENGE, Tallest Skyscraper and Most Creative Design. All the entrants were displayed in the library for judging and cookies.
