Summer School: Youth Portraits Showcase

We are currently in the process of completing session 2 of our New Design Summer Institute, a project based credit recovery summer course called Youth Portraits, partnered with our lead cultural partner Urban Arts Partnership (formerly known as Working Playground). This Friday, July 18, 2008, twenty-five of our New Design students will culmintate this intensive literacy course by sharing their work with our communities at large. Students that participated in the Youth Portraits class will share their written autobiographical moment essays, their recorded Youth Portrait and added sound design work as well as their illustrated chap books. Teachers Tracee Worley, Laura Rubin, Theresa Stanley, Ben Rojas and Jesse Pais worked really hard to move this group through an array of autobiographical literature, monologues and theatre pieces, illustration and comic book storyboards all while balancing the teaching, learning, student relationships and fun! Imagine that!
